Introducing Canyoning Australia

Preview

We’re excited to announce the Australian Canyoning Association is changing its name to Canyoning Australia.

Well actually, we’re not so much changing our name as we’re introducing our new “trading name” or “marketing name”. The ACA will legally remain the Australian Canyoning Association “on the books” but Canyoning Australia will be the name you’ll see in most places.

But why? There are actually a few reasons.

  • The “Australian Canyoning Association” is mouth full. It’s both long to write and awkward to say. This is highlighted by the fact we so often choose to use the acronym ACA instead, which leads only to more problems.

  • Acronyms hide who we are. When we use acronyms without first defining them they obfuscate the brand. Those who don’t know that ACA means Australian Canyoning Association are left wondering who we are or worse confusing us with the many other organisations that also use the acronym ACA like the Australian Climbing Association and the American Canyoneering Association.

  • Shifting to Canyoning Australia aligns us with a familiar pattern for peak sporting body names. E.g. Bushwalking Australia, Snow Australia, Tennis Australia, Cricket Australia, Football Australia… and the list goes on

  • The Australian Canyoning Association is a bit too formal and stuffy. We want to be seen a modern brand that resonates with canyoners of all ages, especially our younger canyoners who are of course the future of our sport and the canyoning community.

It’s important to note that the purpose and mission of Canyoning Australia will not change. We’re still 100% focused on being the voice of the canyoning community and  promoting safe, responsible and inclusive participation in canyoning. An activity so many of us love.

Logo

While changing our name to Canyoning Australia is relatively easy, coming up with a great new logo is not. We want to introduce a clean, simple and professional logo that works in multiple places and at various sizes. But sadly the Canyoning Australia team are not designers. Are you? Can you help us? Drop us a line at auscanyoningassoc@gmail.com, we’d love to chat.

Happy canyoning
